Xavi Vierge and Remy Gardner did not ride today in Qatar due to constant rain which prevented all riders from taking to the asphalt because of safety concerns. Despite waiting and the efforts of the staff, it was not possible to clear the streams of water that crossed the circuit and all sessions were cancelled. The grid positions will be based on the combined practice times that were recorded in the three free practice sessions. As a result, Xavi Vierge will launch from 8th on the grid and Remy Gardner will start from 23rd. There will be an additional ten minutes in each warm-up session, with the race schedule remaining as planned.
“I was disappointed with today because I expected to ride, yet, due to the weather, this was not possible. Nevertheless, I am happy because the team and I worked so well yesterday and I will begin the first race of the season from 8th on the grid. This is a solid place to start from and I am excited for the GP because my rhythm has been so positive. For sure it will be great to get back on the Mistral and I am ready for the fight."
“It was a massive shame that we couldn’t get on our bikes today due to the bad weather, especially as I am certain that we would have improved our time from yesterday. It’s not ideal to start from 23rd but I’m determined and I will do my very best to climb through the pack and into a decent position. Race direction did the right thing today and it looks like it will be clear tomorrow, so lets see what we can do."
