Strong start to 2017 for Vierge after powering to 9th in Qatar

Tech3 Racing Team rider Xavi Vierge produced a determined display under the floodlights to seize a solid top ten finish as he outlined his intentions for the 2017 Moto2 season. The young Spaniard began the sprint from 8th on the grid and quickly set into a firm and consistent pace which saw him remain in the highly competitive pack. Eventually, after pushing non-stop, Vierge met the chequered flag in 9th, but just 0.012 behind Lorenzo Baldassarri after a nail-biting dash to the flag. Meanwhile, Remy Gardner’s race debut on the Mistral 610 was unfortunately cut short after another rider hit him on the frantic opening lap. Nevertheless, the young Australian will seek to fully bounce back at the next round in Argentina in a fortnight.

Day 3 cancelled due to rain in Qatar – Vierge to begin from 8th and Gardner from 23rd

Xavi Vierge and Remy Gardner did not ride today in Qatar due to constant rain which prevented all riders from taking to the asphalt because of safety concerns. Despite waiting and the efforts of the staff, it was not possible to clear the streams of water that crossed the circuit and all sessions were cancelled. The grid positions will be based on the combined practice times that were recorded in the three free practice sessions. As a result, Xavi Vierge will launch from 8th on the grid and Remy Gardner will start from 23rd. There will be an additional ten minutes in each warm-up session, with the race schedule remaining as planned.

Rapid Vierge powers to 6th on day 2 in Qatar

Xavi Vierge showed his potential for the 2017 season by closing the solitary practice session today with a highly positive display aboard the Mistral 610. After pushing non-stop, the young Spaniard finished with a notable time that left him just 0.017 back from the position in front and 8th in the combined standings. Meanwhile, Remy Gardner endured a tricky time, despite his best efforts, as he worked hard to amend a grip issue. Nevertheless, the young Australian produced his quickest time of the weekend, which put him only one second from the top, and in 23rd in the overall times. Vierge and Gardner fully intend to hit the track at full speed tomorrow with Moto2 Qualifying commencing at 18:55 local time.

Gardner and Vierge get off to a solid start on the first day of action in Qatar

The Tech3 Racing Team riders kicked off the opening round of the 2017 Moto2 World Championship with two tireless performances today under the floodlights aboard their Mistral 610 bikes. Xavi Vierge pushed throughout both practice sessions as he took the first steps in setting up his bike for Sunday’s race. He concluded FP2 with an encouraging 14th place finish, which put him 19th overall, but just seven-tenths of a second back from the top five. Whereas Remy Gardner dug deep as he worked hard to improve the grip issues of his intermediate class bike before he wrapped up FP2 a mere 0.043 behind his teammate, with his time leaving him in 22nd in the combined standings. Both riders will seek to make further strides forward in tomorrow’s solitary Moto2 practice, which begins at 19:55 local time.
