Tech3 Racing Team rider Xavi Vierge delivered a confident performance on the opening day of action at the Australian GP to complete FP2 in 14th. After a positive start, the young Spaniard, fresh from a podium finish at the previous round in Japan, rounded out the day with an encouraging personal best which left him 0.454 back from 3rd.
On the other hand, Remy Gardner commenced his home race with a solid display of determination in front of his fans. The young gun endured a tricky FP1 session, whereby he fell, but he picked himself up to finish the afternoon practice only 0.288 behind his teammate. The action recommences tomorrow with FP3 at 11:55 local time, or 02:55 in central Europe.

“It was a good first day here in Australia. This track is amazing and it is always awesome to ride. FP1 went positively even though we had a few small issues which we had to try and fix in the afternoon. Here, we improved a bit but it was not enough so now I need to work with the team, yet overall it was a solid first day. I am just over six-tenths of a second back from 2nd, which is not bad, so let’s see what happens tomorrow. Rain is expected, but I hope it stays dry, however, I am happy and ready for more.“

“I had a bit of a moment in FP1 when I came over the hill, and I’m not really sure what happened, but the bike got sideways yet I managed to hang on to it. However, I couldn’t stop before the wall so I had to lay it down. That put us on the back foot, and then after that, we had some issues with the rear of the bike and I didn’t feel entirely comfortable. It wasn’t a great start, but we regrouped for FP2 and changed the setting a lot, which allowed us to make a positive step forward. I am pretty happy and I did all of my laps on my own. It was slightly harder this afternoon due to the wind, yet I think that to do the lap time that we did was not too bad. We are getting closer and we will be ready tomorrow."
